Amsterdam's Pintai announces its first various artist release with One — a nine-track double twelve that channels the label's deep, hypnotic take on house, techno and electronica into its most expansive statement to date. More than a standard compilation, One brings together producers the label has worked with closely over time alongside some new ones, operating across the deeper, more cinematic spectrum of electronic music. A real statement release, and the first in what Pintai intends as a periodic series of large-scale VA projects.
Karla Bohm's Claire Shazam sets the tone with swirling atmospherics and crisp breaks before Marie Lung lays down dubby chord sequences and expansive textural components. Spain's Tibi Dabo shifts energy with bouncy plucked bass, warped voices and organic percussion, before Australia's Alex Albrecht offers his typically classy twist on deep house via Too Much Traffic — dynamic drums, subtly blooming pads and bubbling synth tones. Martinou throws down cosseting strings atop robust drums, Orion strips things back to raw, reduced drums and dreamy spoken word on Horne, and Scotland's Telfort delivers heads-down hypnotic groove with Proceedings. Carebears' Trebbiantico focuses on heavily swung rhythm and mesmeric chimes before label co-founder Hame closes the record with jazzy drums, twitchy acid lines and airy, cascading reverberations on Not So Broken.
