The fiftieth Profan release and the closing statement of the Earquake BOX — PROFAN 50 presents two newly produced megamixes drawn from Studio 1 and Freiland, the twin pillars of Wolfgang Voigt's formally minimalist 1990s concept techno. Where the nine annual Earquake instalments documented the decade year by year, this double LP steps back and surveys the full arc of two of the project's most rigorous and colour-coded bodies of work in a single, continuous listening experience.
Studio 1 occupies the first two sides — a chromatic sequence of tracks titled in the colours of the spectrum, Gelb through Schwarz, each one a precise and austere exercise in the kind of concept techno that treats structure and colour as interchangeable systems. Freiland carries the flip across two further sides with the same formal logic applied to a slightly different tonal palette, the megamix format dissolving the individual tracks into something approaching a single sustained composition. Voigt at his most systematically minded — and, in the context of the complete Earquake archive, an essential and fitting conclusion.
