Stephan Laubner returns as STL with Take Me To Your Leader — a sixteen-track triple vinyl album that upholds and pushes forward his trademark sound, sublime extended psychedelic house primed to rumble the dancefloor while injecting atmospheric dub techno, acid, raw house and deep house wherever it's played. Like many of the genuinely revered producers in this world, Laubner has no interest in fame — his indifference evident in his choice to live in Harz, a remote highland area in northern Germany, and his reluctance to release music outside of his own label, Something.
The album traverses Laubner's characteristic UFO and X-Files-style house terrain — eerie, oddball and entirely his own. As is trademark, the record features DJ-friendly loops scattered throughout, honed to keep the spirit of vinyl mixing alive — Loop A, Loop B, Loop C and Loop E functioning as connective tissue between the album's fuller compositions. M-Brainiac, Lunar Magic, Space Warriors and Snug Acid showcase Laubner's psychedelic house at its most fully realised, while Fat Sunday and Paperboy bring warmth and groove to the record's considerable scope. For those that know, this is damn right fire.
