Sam Goku returns to Permanent Vacation with the fourth instalment of his Explorations series — four tracks that continue his unique path with the effortless confidence of a producer who has found a sound entirely his own and is in no hurry to leave it. One of the rare producers able to add something genuinely new to the already existing canon of dance music, Goku’s Explorations series has been a consistently absorbing body of work, and this instalment is no exception.
Four tracks — x-plor13 (nothing blue), x-plor14 (gardens), x-plor15 (second thoughts) and x-plor16 (resonants) — that move through deep house, leftfield and breaks with the unhurried, internally consistent logic that has defined the series from the outset. Each numbered entry feels both of a piece with what came before and a distinct step forward, the titles hinting at emotional and atmospheric qualities that the music delivers with characteristic precision. A new sound universe, four tracks at a time.
