Lateral is the most complete and expansive statement Mammo has made to date — twelve tracks spread across three records on Short Span, drawing threads from his many parallel identities and projects into something that functions simultaneously as compendium and expansion. The three discs are designed with a modular sensibility, each carrying its own distinct character while contributing to a larger, cohesive whole. The opening sides glow with buoyant, sparkling motion — light of touch and immediately absorbing. The middle section leans into sharper drive and DJ-ready pressure, the rhythm studies tightening and the energy focusing toward the floor.
The final stretch releases that tension entirely, drifting into deeper, dreamlike and emotive terrain where abstraction, dub techno and experimental electronics dissolve into one another with the ease of someone who has long since stopped treating genre as a constraint. Equally rewarding as a front-to-back journey or selectively deployed across sets, Lateral confirms what those paying attention already suspected: the Mammo universe is one of the most compelling and internally consistent bodies of work in contemporary electronic music.
