The ninth and final instalment of the Earquake vinyl series arrives as a finale befitting a magnificent decade. Earquake 1999 closes the book on Wolfgang Voigt's 1990s archive with well-known classics and never-before-released vinyl tracks gathered across four sides — M:I:5, All, Mint and Wassermann each given their moment as the bells prepare to ring on New Year's Eve and a decade of restless, singular electronic music draws to a close.
M:I:5 opens with the grinding, grid-like minimalism that defined Voigt's most austere alias — Koch Loop, Contenance and the Mikrophon pair establishing the record's serious, focused tone. The All alias carries the B-side with two Überall pieces that fold the catalogue back on itself one final time, before Mint arrives on the C with a more melodic and atmospheric sensibility. Wassermann closes the record with three W.I.R. Christuskirchen mixes — communal, deliberate and carrying the weight of an ending consciously observed. A fitting conclusion to one of the most important archival projects in electronic music. The decade ends. The discovery continues.
