Lutto Lento returns to FTD with Wild Wishes — four tracks that draw influence from across the musical world and define something of their own in the process, as is characteristic of everything the producer puts his name to. Abstract, house and techno sit alongside one another without hierarchy, the music moving between these registers with a fluid ease that makes the genre tags feel beside the point. There is also, finally, a saxophone solo on the label.

Wild Wishes opens with the kind of loose, searching energy that sets the tone for what follows — unhurried and exploratory, the groove emerging gradually from the texture. Profondo deepens the mood on the A-side before the flip delivers Coarse Morse and Crow Boys, each one a distinct angle on the same restless, characterful approach. Music that draws from everywhere and sounds like nowhere else — which is, ultimately, the only definition of originality that matters.
