Hallucinator's Landlocked arrives on double vinyl for the first time — compiled onto two records by Numbers and remastered by Rashad Becker at Clunk, the 1999 debut album from Anna Piva, Edward George and Trevor Mathison finally receives the physical presentation it always deserved. Originally released on Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald's legendary Chain Reaction label, it remains one of that imprint's finest and most singular achievements — simultaneously dense, driving and ambient in a way that constitutes most of its enduring appeal.
Twelve tracks that move through the full Chain Reaction vocabulary while sounding like nobody else on the label. Black Angel is a true work of techno artistry, the beat gradually building in intensity as it slowly emerges from weaving rhythms. Red Angel opts for a slight melodic line with rhythmical pauses that keep the structure fresh. Sethos and Moonshot reach into dubwise rhythm and bass of the deepest order, while Wipeout I and Recall descend into subterranean realms of menacing abstraction before Rocket brings back lush soundscapes alongside a raw bassline.
