DJ Koze's first solo release since Pick Up — his 2018 global anthem — arrives not as a continuation of that record's euphoric reach but as something altogether more interior and strange. The Wespennest EP was born from an extended stay in a secluded Benedictine monastery on the island of Sulawesi, a setting that pushed Koze into a trance-like creative flow and produced music of unimagined depth and beauty. Two tracks that operate, as all the best Koze material does, entirely within their own universe.
Wespennest opens the A-side with Sophia Kennedy's radiant vocal and lyrical presence woven through Koze's characteristically psychedelic production — mystical, emotionally charged and club-ready in the strangest, most beautiful way. It is the kind of track that sounds like nothing else and somehow also sounds inevitable. The flip belongs to Candidasa, which drifts deeper still — shimmering, frequency-shifting electronics unfolding as a hypnotic, transportive soundscape that blurs the boundary between deep house hypnosis and pure sensory dissolution. A record that enchants the senses and melts time, from a producer who has long understood that the dancefloor and the transcendent are not mutually exclusive.
