"1990" sees Mike Kivits attempt to fuse dubstep with early 90's rave music. And a very successful attempt it is, too. A lot of retro-rave inspired tunes are too blatant and tongue in cheek, but this isn't. Huge, warm pads float atop roaring drums and gritty synths, and the obligatory diva samples are buried sufficiently deep in the mix to avoid the dreaded "handbag" effect.
