Osmosis Records launches with its first release — a six-track compilation introducing the sound of the Portland, Oregon-based crew behind the Osmosis party series and associated Osmosis in the Trees festival. A debut that does exactly what the label intends: promote the artists and aesthetic of a community that has been quietly building something genuinely distinctive in the Pacific Northwest underground.
The record moves between deep, percussive club music, dubwise bass and hypnotic downtempo with the fluid, unhurried logic of a well-curated event. Colossi opens the A-side as a mid-tempo dancefloor chugger with serious low-end weight before Back Alley delivers dark, intricately percussive club energy at a higher BPM. Burning Sand closes the A with a hypnotic, sensuous drift through psychedelic terrain. The B-side moves into more exploratory territory — Fuul is a sub-bass-heavy dubwise mind-bender, Belladonna a gong-laden journey with elements reminiscent of gamelan, and Ugamelon Spirit closes the record with spacious percussion and a hypnotic wood-flute ostinato that lingers long after the needle lifts. A strong and cohesive debut from a label worth watching closely.
