Trux's second EP on Office Recordings is a record that wears its influences openly and without apology — a bow to the many outstanding moments in the history of ambient music that manages, in the process, to feel entirely its own. Allusions to Brian Eno sit alongside the charming minimalism of the Pop Ambient tradition and the intricate detail of clicks-and-cuts electronica, the four A-side tracks oscillating between these poles with a fluency that speaks to a producer who has absorbed the lineage deeply rather than simply referenced it. Vibrant, diverse and quietly absorbing, the A-side captures the listener and holds them across four distinct but cohesive soundscapes.
The flip shifts register. *Pulse* opens the B-side with a stunning melodic breakbeat construction before Workshop's Lowtec strips it back into a characteristically deep and unhurried techno rework. O$Vmv$M closes the record with a freestyle electronica version of *Just A Moment* that takes the original somewhere altogether more unhinged and unpredictable. Artwork by Super Quiet — another example of his casual, airy black and white photography doing exactly what the music asks of it.
