Slices Of Life welcomes Tom Ellis to the label with Extrasensory — four tracks that distil over two decades of musical experience into diversely textured minimal house productions. Since 2003, the UK producer has been creating funk and jazz-inspired house and techno across labels including Logistic, Minibar, Wisdomteeth, KANN and Banoffee Pies, and his background as a drummer, percussionist and bass player is immediately audible in the precision and organic rhythm that underpins every track. He is also the mastermind behind electronic jazz ensemble Soulstatejazz.
Precisely placed drums and percussion, rolling grooves and a warm, organic atmosphere oscillating between lightness and relentless drive define the EP throughout. The title track blends almost pop-like melodies with shimmering vocals to set the tone before Bring Forth takes things into deeper, dubby and driving territory. Be The Moment reveals a playful and melancholic side — Ellis at his most emotionally open — before Vividly closes the record in a dense, dreamy yet pulsating sonic world that lingers well after the needle lifts. A confident and accomplished debut on Slices Of Life from one of the UK minimal house scene's most versatile producers.
