Max Hytrek returns as Soundtrek with the third instalment on his Kompakt-affiliated imprint — limited to 100 vinyl copies and continuing his exploration of immersive ambient techno edits, deep textural sound design and subtle rhythmic undercurrents. This time the Kompakt canon is the source material, reconceived with the patient curiosity of a producer who finds the familiar newly charged when heard from a distance.
Blockschutt samples DJ Koze’s iconic Estrella, reconceiving the original with swing and driving house and techno energy. The same sample reappears on Rosengarten, this time more playful and laced with vocal snippets — two approaches to the same material finding two entirely distinct destinations. Elsewhere the record moves through more ambient, glitch and experimental territory, the whole release animated by the philosophy embedded in its liner note: that the summit is not the destination, the path is. That the value lies in what is reconsidered along the way. At the foot of the mountain, gaze inclined toward the summit. Recommended for fans of Jan Jelinek, DJ Koze and Wolfgang Voigt. Limited to 100 copies — move quickly.
