Collaborative duo Second Woman is made up of Turk Dietrich, formerly of ethereal dream-pop shoegazers Belong, and Joshua Eustis of much-loved electronic act Telefon Tel Aviv. The two abandoned the melodic leanings of their earlier projects in 2016, joining forces in order to produce glitched-out, experimental IDM under a new name.

Their first two albums for Spectrum Spools abandoned regular tempi in an effort to unshackle themselves from the grids of their DAW’s, using software such as NI’s Reaktor and Max/MSP to tweak “the perception of time and space within the audio field“: although there were stylistic nods to dub, footwork and techno, the music operated within it’s own unique sphere, a chrome-plated, dizzyingly kaleidoscopic soundworld that recalls Autechre and Venetian Snares.

‘Instant / Apart’ is a four-track extended player for Berlin’s Tresor Records that applies their mutated futurism to a more conventionally rhythmic template.
