Sa Pa returns to Dub Techno For Life with Rhythm From Ambient — the second release on the artist's newly launched label and a confident follow-up to the Girls On Tour EP, pushing further into deep house and dub techno territory with the self-styled experimental streak that has come to define the imprint from the outset.
The A-side opens with the ten-minute title track — ten minutes of undulating, swamp-soaked grooves, heavy dub weight and scattered, gravel-like percussion that establishes the record's mood with absolute conviction. Rhythm follows as its companion, bringing a rougher, rawer energy that revives an industrial techno cut originally intended for Sa Pa's 2015 MDR EP and finally given its proper outing here.
The flip delivers two of the EP's most distinct moments — Last Dance (Ballroom Dub) is an extended deep house ballad of sorts, a warmly haunting mixture of atmosphere, groove and slow-burning euphoria, while Bo Riddim closes with deep sub-bass, heavy drums and laced-out percussion underpinning experimental textures and melodic fragments at a slower, more deliberate pace.
