Matthias Schubert's musical realm, like that of his favourite sci-fi author Philip K. Dick, deftly walks the line between oneiric abstraction and all-engulfing narrative arcs — and all four tracks on SMALLVILLE 77 carry that quality. Fog Gathering and Moments Of Bliss open the A-side with the raw, propulsive energy that sets the tone, while Arp Night and Eubaka take the flip in slightly more oblique directions without ever losing the groove. Deep house delivered with personality, conviction and a characterful edge that feels entirely its own. A debut that was worth waiting for.
