One of the earlier entries in the Rhythm & Sound catalogue, Roll Off was first pressed in May 1998 — a period when Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus were still in the process of defining what the project could be, and this 12" captures that spirit of open, unhurried investigation at its most elemental. Back on wax via a 2026 repress, it remains as quietly essential as anything in the series.
Two versions of the same core material, each approached from a different angle. Roll Off S and Roll Off B share a root but diverge in texture and emphasis — the deep, dubwise low-end and slowly morphing structure that would come to define the Rhythm & Sound aesthetic already fully present, the patience and the space already non-negotiable. Dub and dub techno treated as a single, continuous practice, the Berlin studio as both instrument and philosophy. Essential catalogue from one of electronic music's most important and enduring projects.
