Audio-visual artist Raimund Wong and unboundaried composer Suren Seneviratne present their debut album on London's Kit Records — a record that began life as a freeform collaborative radio show, named after Akira Kurosawa's existential epic Record of a Living Being, and evolved through rehearsals, a support slot for TENGGER at Cafe OTO, and years of shared creative exploration into something genuinely singular. A Record of Living Beings playfully confronts traditional instrumentation — khæn, shakuhachi, voice, taishogoto and cello — with live tape processing and Suren's vast collection of rare and obsolete Macintosh music software from the 1990s and early 2000s.

Taking cues from the cross-cultural subversion of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Geinoh Yamashirogumi's score for Akira, the album documents a borderless ensemble spinning dialogues around otherness and the fracturing of cultural and personal identity. Guests include Yoshino Shigihara, Maxwell Hallett of The Comet Is Coming, Clive Bell of Jah Wobble, Dominic Kennedy of uh and Francesca Ter-Berg of Fran & Flora — each contributing to what amounts to a primitive quilt of real and imagined memories, voices and futures, converging to harmonise in humid space. Optimistic, convivial and entirely unlike anything else.
