Paperclip Minimiser is the cyberpunk minimal techno project of Manchester producer John Howes. On II, released via Peak Oil, Howes expands on his debut with a sleek, hardware-driven exploration of early-2000s digital futurism.
Built using an intentionally limited setup centred around the Nord Modular G2, Elektron Machinedrum and Monomachine, the record captures a stripped-back, precise sound rooted in minimal techno and IDM. Across seven tracks, glitchy textures, crisp percussion and bass-heavy rhythms unfold with clarity and control.
Side A leans into tight, flickering rhythmic sketches, while Side B dives deeper into dubby, low-slung territory with fluid, evolving basslines. Cool, restrained and subtly futuristic, II balances nostalgia with forward-thinking sound design - a refined, hypnotic release built for deep listening and late-night sessions.
