Thirty years on from its original pressing, Maurizio's M4 returns — and its power remains entirely undiminished. Part of the revered M-Series conceived by Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, this is one of the cornerstone documents of the mid-1990s Berlin dub techno movement: a record that distilled the Basic Channel aesthetic into something even more reduced, even more hypnotic, and in doing so arrived at something close to perfect.
Across two sides, M4 builds deep, meditative grooves from pulsing low-end, softly modulating chords and spacious dub effects — tracks that evolve so gradually the shifts in delay, filtering and rhythm register almost subconsciously.
