Scottish producer Lord Of The Isles presents his sixth album Ambient Store on his own Dusk Delay label — following last year’s Signals Aligned, this is a record steeped in emotion, symbolism and the ethereal, limited to 300 units with artwork by Al White, mastered by Miles and accompanied by an insert featuring a script by Robert Ramage, the Scottish organic chemist known for his work in the synthesis and biosynthesis of natural products, peptides and proteins. The pairing of electronic music and biochemical text is characteristic of a producer who has always operated at the intersection of the scientific and the deeply felt.
Seven tracks spanning ambient and experimental music and field recordings, heavy on the synths that define Lord Of The Isles’ aesthetic throughout. Lexical Analysis opens with the kind of patient, immersive quality that sets the record’s emotional register immediately before Heading North and Opal Love Untethered deepen the mood on the A-side. The flip moves through Power Send, Static Dreams and Stop Running with the same unhurried, layered conviction — synth work building and dissolving, field recordings threading through the mix, the whole record moving with the quiet, absorbing authority of a producer six albums into a body of work and fully at ease within it. Recommended for fans of Murcof, Boards of Canada and Loscil.
