Kode9 and The Spaceape return to the melancholy steppers style of their earlier run with Konfusion — a moody, off-kilter twelve-inch on Hyperdub that captures the duo at their most atmospherically focused. Two versions of the same hypnotic material, the vocal and the dub each revealing a different dimension of a production that rewards both close listening and room-filling volume.
The Vox version opens the A-side with The Spaceape's unmistakable spoken word presence threading through Kode9's characteristically dark and unhurried production — the voice and the beat existing in a state of careful, deliberate tension. The Dub on the flip strips the vocal back to leave the skeletal framework exposed, the bass and the space doing the work with the patient, submerged quality that has always defined the best of the Kode9 and Spaceape partnership.
