K Wata's debut album arrives on Short Span as one of the more singular statements in recent UK electronic music — deep, dubwise and constructed with a delicate, architectural precision that makes it feel less like a record to be heard and more like a series of rooms to settle into.
First sketched for live deployment at Sustain Release 2025, then taken back to the studio and tightened into its final form with mixing from K Wata and Christopher Botta at Fer Sound Studio, Give U Space carries that dual quality throughout: music simultaneously built for the sound system and turned inward, touched by distance and longing.
The influences are worn with confidence rather than reverence — the silhouette of slo-mo Memphis and Houston trap in the drum programming, clicks-and-cuts sampling woven through the detail work, the penumbra of dub techno and drowsier dubstep lurking in the low-end, SG's soft vocals rising through the ether on Give You Space and Go, Eugene Lai's clarinet lending Radio Embrace an unexpected warmth. Bass that fills and warms a space rather than simply occupying it.
The record rolls and builds — gathering momentum and groove, ratcheting tension toward peaks of energy in Whisper Dub and There Will Be Love — all noir, cast shadows against the wall, weight shifted and distributed with singularly delicate poise. Mastered and cut by Mike Grinser at Manmade. Art by S. Gong.
