A true cornerstone of the Kompakt catalogue, Jürgen Paape’s Triumph was the label’s very first release back in 1999 - and remains one of its most defining moments. Blending crisp, sample-heavy minimalism with a driving, hypnotic pulse, Triumph helped shape the sound of Cologne’s late-’90s electronic underground and foreshadowed the aesthetic that would come to define Kompakt in the new millennium.
Originally conceived as a spiritual successor to Paape’s underground classic Reval on Profan, Triumph refined the formula into a streamlined, floor-focused statement without losing its experimental edge. The sharp, cut-up sample work and rolling groove still feel strikingly modern, a testament to its timeless construction.
This Record Store Day 2013 edition sees the original DAT tapes remastered for a fresh pressing, alongside The Best Of Mike Ink Is Dead Mix, adding extra weight to an already indispensable release. A foundational minimal techno classic — as vital now as it was at the turn of the century.
