Pierre Paumier closes out 2025 with What They Left — the latest LP under his Jonnnah alias and the third release on his own Second End Records imprint, founded just a year prior with a clear and focused vision: music that blurs the lines between dub techno, bass and ambient without allegiance to any one of them. Following Me, With You on Glasgow's co:clear earlier in the year, the Lyon-based producer arrives here with his most expansive and fully realised statement yet.
Designed as much for solitary listening as for collective experience, What They Left moves between amniotic dub, slowed-down breakbeat and exploratory drum and bass with an ease that belies the emotional complexity beneath. The album is by turns melancholic and euphoric — Consume Me exemplifying that duality most clearly, opening in a misty dub techno environment before breaking into an understated downtempo groove that feels like the quiet interlude in an open-ended game, destination less important than the act of exploring. A subdued trip hop sensibility runs throughout, welcoming yet retaining an appealing mystery. Cold weather listening of the highest order.
