Kirill Vasin, recording as Hoavi, returns to Peak Oil with architectonics - a deeply immersive album shaped by gamelan-inspired rhythmic structures and a tactile, dub-inflected palette. Developed over several years, the record finds Vasin expanding beyond the chrome-plated atmospheres and stuttering beat mechanics of earlier work into something more fluid, organic and hypnotic.
Using self-recorded percussive sounds captured via phone and contact microphone, Vasin constructs a library of textured tones drawn from everyday surfaces - tables, railings, glass and metal. These sounds become the backbone of architectonics, forming intricate rhythmelodic patterns that shimmer between minimalism, ambient, techno and abstract electronica. Cavernous reverb, sub pressure and subtle repetitions create a sense of spatial drift, while overlapping phrases nod equally to Indonesian traditional forms and the cyclical logic of modern minimal composition.
Rather than imitate gamelan, architectonics reframes its methodologies through Vasin’s distinct sonic language. The result is a record that feels both architectural and dreamlike — precise yet alive, suspended between ritual, system music and introspective listening.
