Erik Jabari's second self-release follows the smart, elegant debut Headspin with four tracks of pent-up, fast-moving dubby techno — synth stabs and kinetic energy replacing the locked-groove patience of the first record with something more propulsive and urgent. A strong follow-up that demonstrates the producer's range without losing the focused, confident aesthetic that made the debut so immediately compelling.
Stone Rinse and Sand Burn open the A-side with the dub techno pressure and synth stab energy that defines the record's character — tight, driving and carrying the kind of physical momentum that rewards serious soundsystems. Justin Floater and the title track Soft Spikes carry the flip with equal force, the dub elements threading through the techno framework with the natural ease of a producer who has absorbed both traditions completely. Four tracks, no filler, another strong statement from EJR.
