cv313 and Federsen reunite for ‘Altering Dimensions Part One’, the first in a series of collaborative releases that will later form a long player project.

Detroit-based dub techno pioneer cv313 (Stephen Hitchell of Echospace) has long been recognised as a key figure in shaping the genre, with influential works such as Seconds to Forever and the Dimensional Space LP. His sound fuses immersive atmospheres with hypnotic, weighty rhythms. San Francisco’s Federsen, meanwhile, has carved his own path with releases on Echospace Detroit, Grayscale, Synchrophone, Avant Roots and more. Known for his meticulous, analogue-driven production style, he has become one of dub techno’s most forward-thinking voices. Altering Dimensions represents the convergence of these two acclaimed producers, uniting Detroit’s enduring legacy with Federsen’s refined sonic explorations.

The release features four distinct interpretations of the title track. Leading is the original mix, a seven-minute journey through deep bass pulses, spiralling textures and evolving layers of detail. The ‘Redesign’ mix then takes things into heavier territory, merging cavernous reverb and dense echoes with sturdy, propulsive drums. On the flip, the ‘Dub’ version embraces the classic hallmarks of the genre: crisp percussion, airy delays and sub-heavy fluctuations that ebb and flow with a spacious, meditative quality. Finally, the ‘Reduction’ mix closes the record by paring back the elements to their essential core, focusing on oscillating percussion, subtle pads and atmospheric restraint.

Together, these four versions capture both producers’ strengths, offering a richly immersive record that sits firmly within dub techno’s evolving continuum.
