A long-awaited reissue of four classic Convextion tracks originally released in 1995 on Matrix Records Detroit, now presented as a double LP on a.r.t.less. For the untrained ear, an introduction to golden era ambient dub techno from American producer Gerard Hanson — one of the more quietly revered figures in the Detroit underground, whose work has cast a long shadow over the genre's development in the three decades since these tracks first appeared.
Kuiper, Miranda, Ebulience and Niche unfold across four sides with the deep, meditative patience that defined the best of the mid-1990s Detroit dub techno moment — submerged low-end, slowly morphing harmonic textures and an immersive spatial quality that feels less composed than discovered. Hanson's productions have always operated at the intersection of the scientific and the cosmic, and the track titles here are no coincidence — named after celestial bodies and phenomena, the music reaches outward even as it draws the listener inward.
