Following a trio of acclaimed 12” releases on his self-titled label, alongside appearances on The Trilogy Tapes and FELT, Carrier returns with his debut LP, Rhythm Immortal, released via Modern Love. The album delves into the dual themes of meter and time, expanding on the Carrier project’s core identity while challenging electronic music’s status quo with something both arresting and new.

Rhythm Immortal rejects conventional notions of futurism, instead seeking a redefinition of what “forward” can mean. Ancient and extinct sounds collide with synthetic, avant-garde textures. “The intention is to create something that feels primal and physical,” says Carrier, reflecting on the album’s palette. Familiar sonic objects are deconstructed and reassembled into new, unrecognisable vibrations.

“I’m interested in what happens when different materials strike each other — the way an object sounds depends on how you excite it,” he explains. “When I use samples, it’s about making them interact. A simple sound source might strike something more abstract, creating resonance, reverberation — the shadow cast by a sound.”

Shadows and negative space shape the album’s rhythmic character. Tracks like A Point Most Crucial and Wave After Wave stumble, flutter, and fracture, bending the groove into unpredictable patterns. Rhythm becomes unstable — a terrain where the once-straight path turns disorienting and alive.
