The Pestle is a compelling compilation album by German electronic musician Burnt Friedman, released in early 2017 on the Paris-based label Latency. Rather than a traditional studio album, it presents six tracks recorded between 1993 and 2011, arranged in reverse chronological order. This structure offers listeners a retrospective journey through Friedman's evolving soundscapes over nearly two decades.

Friedman is renowned for his fusion of electronic production with acoustic instrumentation, creating intricate, non-linear rhythms that defy conventional genre boundaries. The Pestle exemplifies this approach, blending elements of dub, jazz, ambient, and experimental electronica. The album features collaborations with saxophonist Hayden Chisholm on "Monkhide" and sarod player Takeshi Nishimoto on the title track, adding rich, organic textures to the electronic framework.
