In-Store: Type One Community with Antek , DJ Antepop, Kyle Parsely
Inverted Audio invite Type One Community (T1C) to our Peckham record store on Saturday 10 October for a special vinyl-only in-store session, running from 6pm to 9pm.
Type One Community is a social enterprise started by three people with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) who share a background in music, nightlife and culture. Its motto sums up the idea: where everyone parties to make life with diabetes better.
Living with type 1 can feel relentless and lonely, and people often don't understand it, especially in clubs and at festivals. Diabetes doesn't stop when you go out. People are still checking blood sugar, looking after sensors, dealing with hypos and trying to find the right drinks. They're often doing it around people who don't understand what's happening. A hypo can easily be mistaken for someone being drunk. T1C began with the recognition and relief of meeting other diabetics in those spaces, and it set out to create more of those moments.
Since 2023 it has grown into a real community. T1C runs parties, radio shows, festival activations, partnerships and community spaces that make nightlife safer, better understood and less isolating for people with diabetes. It has also pushed the music industry to take hypos in nightlife settings more seriously.
The work is emotional as well as practical. It's about being seen and belonging, and also about real changes: better options at the bar, better-informed staff, friends who know how to help, and diabetics feeling less like they have to explain themselves. None of this is meant to be exclusive. T1C is for diabetics, and just as much for friends, partners, venues, festivals and the wider community.
Earlier this year T1C launched T1Diggers, a community social for T1D vinyl heads, music lovers and record collectors. This is part two, and for us it's personal. Inverted Audio founder Tom Durston, aka DJ Antepop, has type 1 diabetes, and it has shaped his whole life, including the years spent behind the decks and in the clubs this magazine and store grew out of. Hosting T1Diggers at our store brings those two parts of his life together.
DJ Antepop plays alongside T1C co-founder Kyle Parsley and Antek, a firm community favourite and committed vinyl-only DJ. Expect deep, minimal, house and dubby sounds all evening.
